Description:
This program is designed for teenage artists with intermediate to advanced drawing skills who are open to investigating their world through image-making, are motivated to refine their artistic skills, and want to build a portfolio. Assignments will be a mixture of work from observation (object, landscape, portrait) and individually developed projects.
We will take advantage of the beautiful hill country foliage, landscape and wild life for figure drawing assignments. Visiting Artists will give informal workshops that make the context of contemporary and historical art more understandable, and expose you to an array of art making approaches including drawing, printmaking, and pastels. Group and individual critiques will help you source your own ideas and inspirations, creating a focus on open communication and personal expression. We’ll relax each day and find inspiration from hill climbing, swimming in the river and being amazed by the ever changing hill country skies.
Details: Participating artists should bring examples of original work in the form of photos/digital images and/or a sketchbook. The Institute will provide a portfolio upon arrival and appropriate storage and studio space for original works. You must be prepared to finish projects outside of regular class time in "open studio" sessions or once you return home because of the short duration of the Institute. A materials list, to be purchased by each participant, will be provided upon registration. No portfolio is required for application.
