Description: Camp Kippewa is an overnight summer camp for girls located on the shores of pristine Lake Cobbosseecontee in south-central Maine. Kippewa's unusual combination of a tight-knit community with a relaxed ambiance and a focus on learning challenging activities makes Kippewa a girl's ideal summer home. Girls finishing grades 1 - 9 (ages 6 through 15) may attend Kippewa for a four-week half-season experience. Enrollment is limited. The camp's small size allows the directors to personally know the campers and their parents, and assures that the camp's many opportunities are readily available to every girl. Kippewa is large enough to have plenty of girls in every age group and to support a lavish activities program, yet small enough so that everyone in camp gets to know everyone else. Philosophy At Kippewa we believe every girl needs a safe, fun place to make friends with other girls, to learn social, artistic, and athletic skills, and to take childhood's steps toward the independence of adulthood. The caring, nurturing ambiance of Kippewa sets a girl at ease with who she is, giving her the confidence to make friends easily and feel comfortable about trying challenging new activities. Everything is individualized, from the way we help your daughter adjust to camp, to the scheduling of her activities. Activities Camp Kippewa offers a wide variety of activities which include studio and performing arts, water and land sports, horseback riding and stable management, wilderness hiking and canoe trips, and individualized sports including gymnastics, tennis, and archery. Program Kippewa campers select the activities they would like to participate in each week. Each week, every girl chooses four new classes to attend for one hour each day with girls of her same age and grade in school. One period each day is assigned and alternates between swimming lessons and team sports. Additional daily free choice periods are recreational, with a variety of activities open to girls of all ages. Evenings are filled with campfires, plays, dance and gym shows, casino nights, special events, and games appealing to a particular cabin, age group, or the camp as a whole. Kippewa's brother camp, Camp Cobbossee for Boys, is located less than a mile away on the same lake. Kippewa campers enjoy a single sex camp environment while having the opportunity to visit regularly with brothers and cousins and to get to know boys of their own age during low-key camp activities. Outdoor Adventure A classic woodland camp built in 1917, Kippewa begins on one of Maine's rare sand beaches and continues up the gentle hillside to spectacular views of Lake Cobbosseecontee. Easy proximity to the coast of Maine and the remote lakes and mountains of the Great North Woods further enhances the setting by allowing ocean sailing trips, salt water beach days, and wilderness hiking and canoe trips to be held close to camp. |
