Description:
Exploration Intermediate Program on the campus of Wellesley College: courses, activities, expeditions, and friendships that open your eyes to things new and different. For students entering grades 8-9.
Located on the campus of Wellesley College, the Intermediate Program is the perfect place for you to gain independence, explore new interests, and tackle ideas and subjects that most people don’t get to experience until they are in college. While you are here, you’ll engage in innovative courses and activities as you learn about things that YOU want to learn about.
Students from more than 40 states and 40 countries come to Exploration each summer because they are interested in learning. At Exploration, our courses are ungraded and pressure-free, so you are encouraged to try academic fields and extracurricular activities that are new and interesting to you. This is the place to try ultimate frisbee for the first time, or to solve a crime using forensic science, or to learn the engineering behind go-cart design, or to perform a Broadway routine in front of an audience. You will feel comfortable trying new things and expanding your horizons, because everyone here is trying new things and expanding their horizons.
You’ll be led by a faculty comprised of current and recent college students from some of the country’s top colleges and universities. Supported by a network of full-time, professional educators, our faculty members are your instructors in the classroom, your advisors in the dorm, and your coaches in extracurricular activities. You will see them everywhere and be inspired by their energy and enthusiasm. At Exploration, we see every moment in the day as a teaching moment, and our faculty is there to provide you with a solid foundation of support and encouragement.
- Your day at the Intermediate Program is designed to let you make the most of your time at Exploration. In the mornings, you’ll take two academic courses, choosing from over 80 different subjects such as Comic Book Art, the Chemistry of Smell, Video Production, and Model United Nations. In the afternoon and evenings, you have even more flexibility with your day, as the Intermediate Program sponsors a variety of different athletics, activities, and special events from which you can pick and choose.
On weekends, you have the opportunity to choose from a number of trips into Boston and throughout New England. Take a nighttime cruise of Boston Harbor. Go to a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Canoe on the Charles River. Ride a rollercoaster at Six Flags New England. Hike Mount Monadnock. And more!
While there is no typical student that attends the Intermediate Program, there is one common strand that holds the Exploration community together: a love of learning. As a self-selected group, our student body has chosen to spend their summer at Exploration because they want to learn. This student enthusiasm, coupled with the Intermediate Program’s fun and exciting programming, creates the perfect environment for you to have a fantastic summer of Exploration.
